What is Kiwanis?

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time.

Kiwanis Club of Friday Harbor serves the San Juan Islands here in beautiful Washington State.

If you live here in the Islands, you may have enjoyed the Pig War Picnic we sponsor every 4th of July! Great food, great music and fun had by young and old.

Save the Date! Mark your calendars and call your guests, it's almost time for San Juan Island’s Annual Fourth of July Pig War Picnic!

You’re not going to want to miss this year’s Pig War Picnic.  Live Music, Kids Games, Beer Garden and much much more.   If you were there last year, you joined hundreds of island families who brought their kids, friends, and relatives to our one-of-a-kind community picnic.  We are expecting an even bigger and better event this year!  The Islands favorite -- the Chameleons -- will be playing all afternoon.  Of course, we’ll have the watermelon eating contest, cakewalk, Island Rec’s kids' games including pennies in the hay, three-legged races and the best-pulled pork barbecue lunch in town for only $10!  We’ve got $5 hot dog meals for the kids and a beer garden for the grown ups.  Don’t miss this nationally acclaimed event!  Its small town living at its best.

NEW LOCATION: Corner Lot at Spring & Price Street (near the Catholic Church and the baseball field).

Everyday Hero...

Jan Hansen recently received a Certificate of Appreciation and a $100 gift certificate as the FH Kiwanis nominee for the Everyday Hero award. In presenting the award, Kiwanis President Doug Popham stated "The Kiwanis Club of Friday Harbor has a history of honoring people who go above and beyond what is expected of them without thought of recognition or reward. Today we'd like to honor a retired school teacher who has been volunteering four days a week at Friday Harbor Elementary School for the past four years and who we feel is a perfect candidate for our Everyday Hero award. Thank you, Jan, for what you do." Pictured, left to right, club president Doug Popham, Mike Hansen, Jan Hansen.

We Support the Family Resource Center

The FH Kiwanis Club presented a check for $1,000 to the San Juan Island Family Resource Center at their May 2 meeting. In accepting the donation, Family Resource Center Director Jennifer Armstrong said "The Joyce L. Sobel Family Resource Center is so grateful for the ongoing support of the Kiwanis Club of Friday Harbor. Our shared focus on helping to enriching the lives of children and youth in our community make this an especially meaningful collaboration. Our many Family Resource Center programs, such as Youth Mentoring and Early Childhood Supports, will definitely benefit from the generosity of Friday Harbor Kiwanis members!"
